👑 S-Tier Skills — Must-Have

These skills are so powerful or versatile that they define entire builds. Every player should prioritize them.

S Double Jump (Survivor)

Essential mobility skill. Double Jump lets you jump again mid-air, giving you access to ledges, cliffs, and floating ruins that are impossible to reach with a single jump. It's the single most versatile skill in the game — used in exploration, combat evasion, and puzzle navigation. Every build benefits from it.

Tip: Combine Double Jump with Updraft (Assassin) for triple vertical mobility — you can reach any point on the map.

S Blink (Healer)

The best combat dodge in Enshrouded. Blink replaces your standard roll with a short-range teleport that travels through enemies and obstacles. It has no collision — you can dodge through boss attacks that would otherwise pin you against a wall. The short cooldown makes it spammable in prolonged fights.

Tip: Blink counts as a dodge for all purposes — it's strictly better than rolling once you unlock it.

S Updraft (Assassin)

Glider height boost. Updraft launches you upward when you activate your glider, giving you enough height to cross entire biomes without touching the ground. It's the best exploration skill in the game and completely changes how you traverse the map. Once you have this, you'll wonder how you played without it.

Tip: Activate Updraft right after jumping off a high point — the height boost stacks with your initial altitude.

S Water Aura (Healer)

Passive AoE healing. Water Aura creates a persistent healing aura around you that restores health over time to you and all nearby allies. The healing ticks are small but constant, drastically reducing your need for potions and food-based healing. In boss fights, it effectively gives your whole party passive regeneration.

Tip: Water Aura stacks with Battle Heal — having both makes you nearly unkillable against normal enemies.

S Dessert Stomach (Survivor)

Extra food buff slot. Dessert Stomach grants a permanent additional food buff slot, allowing you to consume four food items instead of three. Since food provides the majority of your stat bonuses — health, stamina, mana, and resistances — an extra slot is a massive power boost. It's essentially free stats.

Tip: Use the extra slot for a stamina food like Grilled Meat or a resistance dish for whatever biome you're in.

S Battle Heal (Tank)

Crit-based self-healing. Battle Heal restores a portion of your health whenever you land a critical hit. With even moderate crit chance, this skill turns you into a self-sustaining damage dealer. It's especially powerful with fast weapons like daggers or one-handed swords that crit frequently. Reduces reliance on healing potions in extended fights.

Tip: Pair Battle Heal with high-crit weapons (daggers, swords) and the Assassin's crit damage nodes for maximum sustain.

A-Tier Skills — Excellent

Strong skills that excel in specific roles. Not as universally essential as S-tier, but highly recommended for the right builds.

A Miner (Center)

Bonus resources when mining. Miner grants a 10-25% chance to double the ore you receive from mining nodes. Since ore is the backbone of Enshrouded's crafting system — from weapons and armor to building materials — this skill pays for itself within minutes of unlocking it. Every point of extra ore means less time spent farming.

Tip: Miner works with every tool type. Pair it with the Survivor's stamina skills for longer mining sessions.

A Airborne (Assassin)

30% less glider stamina consumption. Airborne reduces the stamina drain while gliding by a significant margin. This translates to longer flight distances and more ground covered before needing to recharge. For explorers and builders working on tall structures, this skill is a massive quality-of-life improvement.

Tip: Airborne + Updraft is the best exploration combo in the game — you launch higher and fly farther.

A Begone! (Trickster)

Stun punch on demand. Begone! delivers a powerful punch that stuns most enemies, interrupting their attacks and leaving them vulnerable for a follow-up. It's invaluable for dealing with heavily armored enemies and bosses that wind up slow, telegraphed attacks. The cooldown is short enough to use multiple times per fight.

Tip: Use Begone! to cancel boss charge attacks and ground slams — the stun window is long enough for a full combo.

A Rebound (Survivor)

Base stamina regen +30%. Rebound increases your passive stamina regeneration rate by roughly 30%. More stamina means more sprinting, more dodging, more gliding, and more combat actions. Since stamina governs almost every non-basic action in Enshrouded, this skill has universal value across all playstyles.

Tip: Rebound is especially valuable early-game when your stamina pool is small and every regen tick matters.

A Shell Shock (Tank)

Block reflects damage. Shell Shock causes a portion of incoming damage to reflect back at the attacker when you successfully block. This turns your shield into both a defensive and offensive tool. Against mobs of weaker enemies, you can simply hold block and let them kill themselves on your shield.

Tip: Pair Shell Shock with a tower shield for maximum block stability — you'll reflect damage without losing your footing.

A Emergency Blink (Healer)

Auto-teleport on lethal damage. Emergency Blink automatically triggers Blink when you take damage that would kill you, teleporting you to safety and leaving you with a small health buffer. It's a get-out-of-jail-free card that saves you from falling off cliffs, boss combos, and Shroud timer deaths. Has a cooldown, so it won't save you twice in quick succession.

Tip: Emergency Blink does not consume your regular Blink cooldown — you effectively have two Blinks when the passive triggers.

👍 B-Tier Skills — Situationally Good

Useful skills that shine in specific builds or situations. Worth taking if they fit your playstyle, but easy to skip if they don't.

B Beast Master (Survivor)

Tame and ride animals. Beast Master allows you to tame certain creatures in the world — wolves, deer, and more — and eventually ride them as mounts. Riding dramatically improves overland travel speed and gives you a mobile storage option. It's not essential (fast travel and gliders cover most needs), but it's a lot of fun and genuinely useful for exploring large biomes.

Tip: Tamed animals can also be used as pack mules — load them with ore and wood to free up your inventory.

B Eagle Eye (Assassin)

Increased bow and crossbow damage. Eagle Eye amplifies your ranged weapon damage by a percentage, making it a must-have for dedicated archer builds. The bonus applies to both regular shots and charged attacks. For anyone planning to use ranged combat as their primary damage source, this skill is essential — for melee players, it's a skip.

Tip: Stack Eagle Eye with the Trickster's ranged crit nodes for one-shot headshot builds against non-boss enemies.

B Heavy Hitter (Tank)

Increased two-handed weapon damage. Heavy Hitter boosts the damage of greatswords, warhammers, and battle axes by a flat percentage. Two-handed weapons already deal the highest per-hit damage in the game — this skill widens the gap. Best paired with the Tank's defensive passives to survive the slow swing animations.

Tip: Use the Tank's block skills to absorb hits between slow two-handed swings — don't try to trade blows.

B Fireball (Mage)

Basic fire spell with AoE. Fireball launches a projectile that explodes on impact, dealing fire damage to the target and nearby enemies. It's the Mage's first real area-of-effect spell and works well for clearing groups of Shroud creatures. The mana cost is manageable, and the damage scales with your Intelligence stat.

Tip: Fireball's explosion can hit enemies through doorways and windows — use it to clear rooms before entering.

🤷 C-Tier Skills — Niche

These skills have narrow use cases. They work in specific scenarios but are outclassed by alternatives in most situations.

C Poison Cloud (Mage)

Damage over time, long cooldown. Poison Cloud creates a lingering area of poison gas that damages enemies over time. In theory, it's a good kiting tool — you can layer the cloud in a chokepoint and watch enemies die as they walk through it. In practice, the cooldown is long for the damage it deals, and most enemy groups are cleared faster with Fireball or melee attacks. Its niche is against high-health enemies that you can kite through multiple clouds.

Tip: Use Poison Cloud in narrow corridors and doorways where enemies have no choice but to walk through the gas.

🚫 D-Tier Skills — Skip Them

These skills are too situational or underpowered compared to alternatives. Spend your skill points elsewhere.

D Sneak Attack (Trickster)

Damage bonus when attacking from stealth. Sneak Attack increases your damage when you hit an enemy that hasn't detected you. The problem is that Enshrouded is overwhelmingly an open-combat game — most encounters begin with enemies already aware of your presence. Enemies also have generous detection ranges and sound triggers, making stealth approaches unreliable. The damage bonus isn't high enough to justify building around it.

Tip: If you absolutely want Sneak Attack, use a bow from maximum range. Even then, Eagle Eye is a better damage investment.

🧙 Best Skills By Class

Optimal skill paths for each of the six skill trees in Enshrouded. Prioritize skills in the order shown.

🌿 Survivor

Priority order:

  1. Double Jump — essential mobility, take first
  2. Dessert Stomach — extra food slot = free stats
  3. Rebound — stamina regen for sustained activity
  4. Beast Master — mounts for late-game travel

The Survivor tree is the most versatile start in Enshrouded. Double Jump alone justifies the investment, and Dessert Stomach pays dividends from the moment you unlock it.

🗡️ Assassin

Priority order:

  1. Updraft — glider boost, massive exploration value
  2. Airborne — less stamina drain while gliding
  3. Eagle Eye — ranged damage for archer builds

Assassin excels at mobility and ranged combat. Updraft + Airborne is the best exploration combo in the game — you can cross entire maps without touching the ground.

💚 Healer

Priority order:

  1. Blink — best combat dodge in the game
  2. Water Aura — passive AoE healing
  3. Emergency Blink — auto-save on lethal damage

Healer skills are universally useful. Blink is a combat game-changer, and Water Aura makes you self-sufficient in any encounter. Emergency Blink is a safety net that everyone should eventually get.

🛡️ Tank

Priority order:

  1. Battle Heal — crit healing for sustain
  2. Shell Shock — reflect damage on block
  3. Heavy Hitter — big weapon damage bonus

The Tank tree rewards aggressive play. Battle Heal keeps you alive without potions, Shell Shock punishes enemies for attacking, and Heavy Hitter makes your two-handed swings devastating.

🎭 Trickster

Priority order:

  1. Begone! — reliable stun for dangerous enemies
  2. Sneak Attack — only if you build for stealth

Trickster is a hybrid class with utility-focused skills. Begone! is the standout — a stun on demand that works against most enemies. Sneak Attack is niche and only worth taking if you're committed to a stealth playstyle.

🔮 Mage

Priority order:

  1. Fireball — reliable AoE damage spell
  2. Poison Cloud — situational DoT for kiting

The Mage tree is the most skill-point-hungry in the game. Fireball is your bread-and-butter for clearing groups. Poison Cloud has niche use in chokepoint defense and boss kiting but is generally outclassed by Fireball's raw damage.

🎯 Best Skills By Activity

Not sure what to prioritize based on what you do most? Here are the best skill combos for each activity type.

🗺️ Exploration

The holy trinity: Double Jump + Updraft + Airborne

These three skills together give you unmatched map traversal. Double Jump reaches elevated platforms, Updraft launches your glider skyward, and Airborne lets you glide twice as far. With all three, you can reach any location on the map — no climbing needed.

⚔️ Combat (Melee)

Core combo: Battle Heal + Begone! + Shell Shock

Battle Heal sustains you through extended fights, Begone! interrupts dangerous enemy attacks, and Shell Shock punishes enemies who hit your block. This setup works with any melee weapon but shines with one-handed swords and shields for maximum block uptime.

🏹 Combat (Ranged)

Core combo: Eagle Eye + Blink + Updraft

Eagle Eye boosts your bow damage, Blink gives you a panic dodge when enemies close the gap, and Updraft lets you take elevated positions for clear sightlines. This is the definitive archer build — hit hard, reposition fast, never get pinned down.

⛏️ Mining / Gathering

Core combo: Miner + Double Jump

Miner gives you bonus ore from every node, and Double Jump lets you reach resource deposits on cliffs and ledges that other players can't access. This combination dramatically reduces the time you spend farming materials for crafting and base building.

💀 Boss Fights

Core combo: Water Aura + Blink + Battle Heal

Boss fights are endurance tests. Water Aura provides steady passive healing throughout the fight, Blink gives you an invincible dodge for boss mechanics, and Battle Heal converts your crits into extra sustain. This trio lets you focus on damage output instead of chugging potions.

💡 How to Earn Skill Points

You need skill points to unlock skills. Here are all the ways to earn them in Enshrouded.

📈 Level Up

1 skill point per level. Every time your character levels up, you receive one skill point. This is your primary source of skill points throughout the game. Higher levels require more experience, so you'll naturally earn points more slowly in the late game.

🌿 Destroy Shroud Roots

3-5 skill points each. Shroud Roots are corrupted plant-like structures found in Shroud zones. Destroying them rewards 3-5 skill points depending on the root's size and difficulty. This is the best way to earn bonus skill points beyond what leveling provides. Mark them on your map and farm them regularly.

📜 Complete Quests

Specific quests reward skill points. Certain main story quests and side quests grant skill points as rewards. These are often tied to progression milestones — defeating a boss, discovering a new area, or completing an NPC's quest chain. Check your quest log for rewards before choosing your next objective.

Pro Tip: Farm Shroud Roots early. The skill points from roots are available regardless of your level, and the early-game roots in the Springlands are easy to clear. You can easily earn 15-20 extra skill points before tackling the first major boss.

🔄 Respec Guide — How to Reset Skills

Made a mistake with your skill points? Here's how to respec in Enshrouded.

You can respec at any Flame Altar. The respec option is available in the Flame Altar menu — the same place where you upgrade your flame level and fast travel. Interact with your altar and select the respec option to refund all spent skill points.

Cost: Runes. Respeccing costs Runes, a currency earned by defeating enemies, destroying Shroud Roots, and looting chests. The cost of respec increases with each use — your first respec is cheap, but subsequent respecs require more Runes each time.

Important: Plan your build before committing. Because respec costs scale up, frequent respeccing becomes expensive quickly. Use our tier list and class recommendations above to make informed choices the first time.

When to respec:

  • Early game (levels 1-10): Respec is cheap. Don't hesitate to experiment with different skill trees.
  • Mid game (levels 11-20): Start committing to a build. Respec costs are noticeable but not prohibitive.
  • Late game (levels 21+): Respec becomes expensive. Plan your build carefully or farm Shroud Roots for Runes before respeccing.

Respec does not refund: Skill points spent on skill prerequisite paths. Only the end-node skills and branch nodes are refunded. This means you should avoid taking unnecessary path nodes if you plan to respec later.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Enshrouded skills — answered.

What is the best skill in Enshrouded?
Double Jump is the single best skill in the game. It's available early in the Survivor tree, costs only 1-2 skill points to reach, and provides vertical mobility that no other skill or item can replace. Every player, regardless of build, should get Double Jump as soon as possible.
How many skill points can I earn total?
The maximum depends on your level cap and how many Shroud Roots you destroy. With the current level cap and all discoverable Shroud Roots, you can earn approximately 80-100 skill points — enough to fully unlock 2-3 skill trees or spread points across all 6 trees.
Can I max out every skill tree?
No. There are not enough skill points available to max out all six trees. You need to specialize. A typical build focuses on one primary tree (15-20 points) and one or two secondary trees (5-10 points each). Use our tier list to prioritize the most impactful skills in each tree.
Does respec cost increase every time?
Yes. The Rune cost of respeccing increases with each use. Your first respec costs a small amount (around 50-100 Runes), but subsequent respecs scale up significantly. After 3-4 respecces, the cost becomes prohibitive for most players. Plan your build carefully and use our tier list to avoid costly respecs.
What skills should I get first as a beginner?
Start with the Survivor tree: Double Jump → Rebound → Dessert Stomach. This gives you mobility, stamina sustain, and an extra food slot. After that, branch into your preferred playstyle: Assassin for exploration, Tank for melee combat, or Healer for survivability. Avoid the Mage and Trickster trees as a beginner — they require more game knowledge to use effectively.
Are there any new skills coming in Enshrouded 1.0?
Keen Games has confirmed that the 1.0 launch will include new skills, revised skill trees, and balance changes across all six classes. We will update this tier list within 48 hours of the 1.0 patch notes being released. Bookmark this page and check back after launch for the updated rankings.
